Order one size larger for best results, January 21, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vinyl Mattress Cover with Zipper (6 gauge), Twin XL, 16" Deep This vinyl zippered cover is 6 gauge (6 mil), which is as thick as they come without paying a LOT more. To avoid tearing, my advice is to do as I did and order one size larger than needed. This provides enough slack to prevent tearing. You can always just tuck the surplus under the mattress. For my standard twin mattress, I ordered a Twin XL, and for my standard queen mattress, I ordered a California King. Use this size chart:

The sides of our mattress are nine inches but the middle is thicker. We ordered the nine inch size and it fit with plenty of room. It was made of a thick material and was not a flimsey cover. Overall, we were very pleased with it. The one disappointment was that the seams were not very strong. One seam split while we were trying to get it over the mattress. We would buy another one if needed.

It turns out that is is not. The zipper broke before I was able to get it completely on. Also, just lifting the king size mattress caused it to tear. I was hoping for so much better.
